Karts to Cars
Karts to Cars Program
At Reed MotorSports, our Karts to Cars program is designed to bridge the gap between karting and full-scale automobile racing through the highly competitive Mazda Spec MX-5 platform. The Spec MX-5 Cup is one of the most respected entry-level professional racing classes in North America, built around identical, purpose-built Mazda MX-5 race cars that emphasize driver skill over budget or equipment advantage. It has become a proven development pathway for karting graduates looking to transition into car racing while keeping costs controlled and competition close.
A key part of this progression is the Mazda Motorsports Shootout, an annual scholarship program that has helped launch the careers of numerous professional drivers. The Shootout evaluates top talent from grassroots racing series like karting and Spec MX-5 competition, offering significant financial support and career opportunities to standout drivers. Through our program, Reed MotorSports focuses on preparing drivers for this exact step—building racecraft, consistency, technical understanding, and the discipline required to compete at a national level.
Our goal is to maintain the same core values that define our karting program: accessibility, affordability, and driver development. Racing should not be limited by excessive cost barriers, and the Karts to Cars program is built to provide a realistic and structured path forward for drivers who want to move into cars without losing sight of budget or opportunity. Whether you are coming directly from karting or looking to step into car racing for the first time, we aim to develop competitive, well-rounded drivers ready for the next stage of their motorsports journey.
